How to Make Your Rental Property Eco-Friendly

With society becoming more environmentally conscious, we must start thinking about ways we can make our homes more eco-friendly. As a landlord, it is your responsibility to figure out how your rental property can be more sustainable. This will not only help the environment, but it can also reduce several different costs that go into renting your property.

Here are six ways to make your rental property environmentally friendly.

Implement Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

When you’re in between renters and need to have the property professionally cleaned before new tenants, you should be looking at natural products. Many cleaning products out there can contain harmful chemicals that hurt the environment. Try to look for natural products online or make products of your own. For mild cleaning, you can combine ½ cup of vinegar, ¼ cup baking soda, and four to eight cups of hot water in a spray bottle.

Provide Recycling and Composting Facilities

Apartments and other kinds of rental properties produce so much waste whether from tenants or construction workers working on new projects. To help prevent this buildup of waste, landlords can provide their renters with recycling and composting facilities. This will urge more people to recycle their waste products and compost leftover scraps of food.

Install Solar Panels

Solar panels are really helpful in reducing your carbon footprint. This is because solar energy is renewable which means it doesn’t get used up and creates zero carbon emissions. Simultaneously, having solar panels can reduce electricity bills with fewer maintenance costs. When installing solar panels, you also could be eligible for government incentives and tax credits

Make Water Conservation a Focus

By saving water, you can reduce utility bills and help create a more sustainable rental property. Landlords can implement low-flow fixtures for shower heads, faucets, and toilets to have a lower flow rate of water or a smaller quantity of water per flush. These are extremely easy to install on any kind of rental property.

Implement Smart Technology

In 2024, smart technology is the way to go! Adding new additions like smart thermostats can only help improve your rental’s sustainability. It can help reduce heating and cooling costs and also connects to your smartphone so that you can decide what temperature you want with only one touch of a button. These kinds of smart thermostats can also track when there is excess moisture in the air, which in turn avoids mold growth.

Use LED Lightbulbs

Normal lightbulbs usually require more electricity than LED bulbs which use 75% less energy. They also last longer than incandescent lighting so you won’t have to worry about getting them replaced so often. You’ll find a variety of options to choose from based on what kind of lighting fixtures your property has.

Through these six practices, you can easily make your home more energy efficient. This will help you and your tenants save money while also helping benefit the environment. It’s time to go green this year!
