March 28, 1938 Harry A. Gilbert, the original founder of The Gilbert Companies, Incorporated, which became Thayer & Associates, Inc., was among the first to receive the Certified Property Manager® designation in 1938 when he received CPM® Key Number 15.

Douglas G. Thayer, Harry A. Gilbert’s grandson became a Certified Property Manager® when he received is designation as a CPM® (Key Number 10,174).

In 1987 two of the four shareholders of The Gilbert Companies Incorporated, Donald F. Thayer, Jr. and Douglas G. Thayer, Harry A. Gilbert’s grandson, established Thayer & Associates, Inc. as a successor to The Gilbert Companies Incorporated.

Douglas G. Thayer, CPM®, became President of the Metropolitan Chapter Number 4 of The Institute of Real Estate Management®.

Thayer & Associates, Inc. proudly became an Accredited Management Organization®.

Thayer & Associates, Inc. received its license as a Corporate Real Estate Broker.

Donald F. Thayer, Jr., one of the two co-founders of Thayer & Associates, Inc., retired on June 27, 1996. Mr. Thayer was joined by his family, friends and colleagues at the Bay Tower Room, atop 60 State Street, to celebrate his retirement.

Candice M. Morse (Thayer), Harry A. Gilbert’s great grand-daughter and Douglas G. Thayer’s daughter, joined Thayer & Associates, Inc.

Thayer & Associates, Inc. moved its offices back to the same location in Porter Square as its predecessor, The Gilbert Companies, Incorporated, which operated from that location dating back to the 1930’s.

Thayer & Associates, Inc. became the first organization ever to have four generations of Certified Property Managers when Candice M. Morse (Thayer), Harry A. Gilbert’s great grand-daughter earned her designation as a CPM® (Key Number 20,415)

Candice M. Morse (Thayer), Harry A. Gilbert’s grand-daughter and Douglas G. Thayer’s daughter, will follow in her father’s footsteps and become President of the Metropolitan Chapter Number 4 of The Institute of Real Estate Management®.

Several of the clients that Thayer & Associates, Inc. retained from The Gilbert Companies Incorporated have remained clients to this day, almost thirty years later.

Several Members of Thayer’s professional staff have received the recognition of the New England Chapter of Community Association Institute (CAI-NE) and of The Boston Metropolitan Chapter # 4 of The Institute of Real Estate Management®, including Portfolio Manager of the Year, Manager of the Year and Certified Property Manager of the Year.

Several Clients of Thayer & Associates have received recognition of the New England Chapter of Community Association Institute and of The Boston Metropolitan Chapter # 4 of The Institute of Real Estate Management, including awards for Landscaping and Problem Solving.
